Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has received more attention from liberal bloggers in the past week than he has since the glory days of his WH '08 run. Now that House Dem leaders are scrambling for every last health care reform vote, lefty bloggers are criticizing Kucinich for refusing to vote for the Senate bill because he considers it too conservative. Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas complains that "for Kucinich and his partisans, it's either perfection or nothing" and declares that he has "no patience for the idiocy of Kucinich." Other lefty bloggers agree with Moulitsas, although the Firedoglake bloggers are (not surprisingly) praising Kucinich's stance.
What else is happening in the blogosphere?
- Liberal bloggers (Ackerman, Willis, Cole) are siding with the Obama admin. in its dispute with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, while conservative bloggers (Pollak, Mirengoff, Johnson) are siding with Netanyahu.
- RedState bloggers (Gardner, Erickson) continue their campaign against Sen. Bob Bennett (R-UT).
- Liberal bloggers (McCarter, Willis, Tim F.) are blasting Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) for criticizing his Dem colleagues in an interview with National Review.
KUCINICH: The Purity Test
Moulitsas is criticizing Kucinich for refusing to vote for the Senate health care bill because he considers it too conservative: "We fought hard for a better bill, got improvements from the Senate bill, and now have to take what we can get. But the war isn't over. And this legislation, inadequacies and all, is the biggest progressive accomplishment in generations. But for Kucinich and his partisans, it's either perfection or nothing. It's exactly why, like in 2007, I have no patience for the idiocy of Kucinich."
Kucinich later defended his position, but most liberal bloggers agree with Moulitsas:
- Daily Kos' Dante Atkins: "[T]he nature of the Senate Rules makes it such that this is the best we are going to get. No other votes are persuadable, and coming away with nothing will be an utter disaster. And ironically, it is by maintaining its allegiance to its purest ideals that the progressive movement will become its own worst enemy, as there is a chance that some progressives such as Kucinich will vote against the Senate Bill from left and end up sinking the entire reform process -- and potentially any hopes for a successful midterm cycle for the Democratic Party."
- The Washington Monthly's Steve Benen: "There were likely liberal champions of the day who perceived the New Deal, the Great Society, FDR, LBJ, and their congressional Democratic majorities as disappointing and incompetent sell-outs who failed to take advantage of the opportunities before them, producing legislation worthy of rejection. Had Kucinich been there, he likely would have sided with conservatives then, too. But the programs passed, and once they were in place, they improved, expanded, and became integral to the American experience. It took years and perseverance, but progress happened after the initial programs became law. We now consider their policy achievements bedrocks of American society. [...] It's hard to overstate how terribly misguided [Kucinich's position] is."
- Oliver Willis: "Most of us on the left realize that the best way forward is to pass this bill, 'kill the bill' be damned and unrealistic."
In contrast, the bloggers at Firedoglake (Swanson, Masters) are praising Kucinich for opposing the Senate bill. Firedoglake founder Jane Hamsher argues that "the Senate bill would deal a bigger blow to abortion rights in this country than anything George Bush ever signed into law."
On the opposite side of the blogosphere, conservative bloggers are complaining (Malkin, Darling, Bill S) that the House Dems' strategy for passing health care reform is unconstitutional. However, one righty blogger -- RedState's Brian Faughnan -- thinks GOPers should support the Dems' tactics: "It's becoming apparent that Democrats have decided that they really will do anything to pass Obamacare -- including seemingly violating the Constitution. This is likely to guarantee that their health care plan will enjoy an express ride to a Supreme Court challenge, but it also opens up a whole new range of possibilities for enactment of a bold conservative agenda. [...] If Democrats now 'deem passed' a health care bill that might only get 205 votes or so in the House, perhaps Republicans could 'deem passed' a bill that might only have the actual support of 200, or 190 -- or even 180. In fact, there's probably no real floor. If attached to a sufficiently popular piece of legislation, almost anything might be done."
THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Enough With The Petraeus Speculation!
Think Progress' Matthew Yglesias:
"Marc Ambinder signals that it's time for the [Gen.] David Petraeus for President speculation to start up again. I continue to view this whole idea as slightly ridiculous, but I'd really sort of like to see the guy run for the GOP nomination. Presumably we'd see [ex-MA Gov.] Mitt Romney slamming him as soft on terrorism and Petraeus would be slamming Romney for supporting Obama-style socialism on health care. It'd be kind of awesome.
At any rate, just thinking about it is a reminder that one reason these high-level military officers seem like appealing candidates is precisely because they get to be famous media celebrities without engaging in that sort of annoying political cut-and-thrust. But recall that as soon as [ret. Gen.] Wesley Clark became a candidate, he started looking a lot more politician-y than he had before. It would be the same with anyone. Americans have a very low opinion of politics and politicians and people who act like politicians, but in practice the political system requires politicians to act like that. So anyone outside the arena looks appealing until he steps into the arena."
LEST WE FORGET: Authorities Investigating Suicide Determine Victim Really Went For It

Kos isn't a liberal. He is a conservative Democrat along the lines of Max Baucus and Bart Stupak. He worked for Henry Hyde when that man led the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Kos is far, far from liberal.
Most liberal bloggers are siding with Kucinich and will vote against the DINOs who support this HMO/health insurer sham.
